In this bi-monthly newsletter we examine SMSF strategies surrounding contribution caps and we showcase the statistics recently released by the ATO which outlines the continued growth of the SMSF industry.


Over the past five years the number of SMSFs grew by 19% and SMSF assets grew by 57%, with over 1.1 million SMSF members in the industry. Beyond the contribution caps

Most professionals are aware of the general limits or “caps” on superannuation contributions. Despite there being no laws preventing fund members from making unlimited contributions, most understand that there can be significant financial consequences associated with exceeding those caps.

   
   
   

Latest ATO annual statistics report 

The ATO has released the ninth edition of their annual statistical report on SMSFs. The overview provides high-level observations and commentary on 2016–17 statistics gathered from SMSF annual returns, SMSF registrations and auditor contravention reports.
